Blenheim Orange melons are the prime crop each year in the heated melon house in Tresillian's walled kitchen garden. This variety was developed and first grown in England in 1881 by Mr Thomas Crump, head gardener to the Duke of Marlborough's estate at Blenheim. "Its scarlet flesh has an exceptionally good flavour," says R J Harris." It is now very, very rarely cultivated in the United Kingdom, for it does not crop as prolifically as the modern F1 hybrid variety."
