Strawberries are often harvested in the old style at Tresillian. Gathered on a dry day at mid-day, when the sun has been at its height for two or three hours, they are arranged on a bed of strawberry-plant leaves placed in a broad, shallow basket. Thus they are ready to be placed on the dining table in the big house. "These are Royal Sovereign," says the head
gardener. "Fine flavour, good size, not at all difficult to raise when the proper preparation has been carried out and there has been good management of the developing crop."
