MEXICAN MARIGOLDS: 26 May 2004

SO e-mails: The use of Mexican Marigolds was mentioned in the book. I can find French and African only. Where can I buy them or will another variety be a suitable substitute?

I replied: I can answer your question without referring to Mr Harris.

Suffolk Herbs supplies the seeds of the Mexican Marigold. Look at the
Suppliers section (page 242) of 'R J Harris's Moon Gardening' for this
firm's details. It is a very friendly and helpful firm, which will send to you a
copy of what was, in 1999, its really very good catalogue.

I have not seen the catalogue since that year, so do not know whether 1999's
standards have been maintained. The last I heard, the firm was charging a
pound or so per copy. I thought then, and still think, that the pound charge
was merited.

To answer your other question: no, as I have ascertained more than once in conversation with the head gardener, the French and African marigolds do not
perform like the Mexican Marigold.

I note that the section of the moon-gardening manual that is devoted to the
Mexican Marigold does not state where to buy this unusual plant's seeds. We will correct that when the manual is revised. Thank you for highlighting this for us.
